Tryst
Despairingly blighted,
we attempt to atone
the sins we forced each other to commit.
“Out, damned spot,”
I cry.
Burning water scorches me.
The flesh of my person,
on fire, down to the bone.
Useless.
Ashamed.
I morphed
into fairies,
villains,
sirens.
Then back to myself,
and you saw through none.
We could not outrun our pain,
the monsters we bred,
the ones we continue to breed.
The silence consoles
and terrifies me.
We reached the precipice,
then you jumped.
I stood on the sidelines,
and watched you forget me.
I jumped after you,
Tearing my world apart.
Entangled in misery,
we dug holes,
and buried ourselves
into oblivion.
Yet, one arm still reaches out,
above the grave.
